CAVE CONSCIOUSNESS

This series is born from my journeys into the Tayos Caves of the Ecuadorian Amazon. These vast, stone-wombed spaces have shaped my life in quiet, irrevocable ways. They hold the threads of my heritage: the legacy of my father’s work, my own footsteps echoing through the caverns he once walked, and the teachings shared through my time with the Shuar people, guardians of this sacred terrain.

The caves are not empty. They are brimming—thick with presence, with memory, with the breath of the Earth herself. Cave Consciousness is a visual invocation of this subterranean world, where the absence of light becomes its own kind of illumination.

Within the dark, the mind stills. The noise of the world softens. A different kind of listening becomes possible, one that tunes into signal rather than surface, into the dreaming intelligence that lives in stone, mineral, root, and silence.

These paintings are offerings to that descent. They trace the contours of inner chambers, both geological and psychic, where we are asked to let go of surface vision and feel our way forward. In these depths, something ancient stirs. The caves become thresholds into memory, into ceremony, into new ways of seeing and remembering. What begins as darkness becomes a sanctuary for vision.

Cave Consciousness is a return where we remember that the Earth, in her silence and shadow, is always speaking and dreaming with us.
